VDOT’s I-64 Southside Widening and High Rise Bridge Project widened nearly 9 miles of I-64 to three full-time travel lanes in each direction, including one express lane between Bowers Hill and Battlefield Boulevard, and constructed a new 100-foot vertical clearance fixed-span bridge over the Elizabeth River. The new bridge, serving motorists on I-64 west (traveling toward Virginia Beach), opened to motorists in July 2022 and the express lanes opened in February 2024.
This project was completed in fall 2024.
As the I-64 Southside Widening and High Rise Bridge project has been completed, future lane closures will be included in the VDOT Hampton Roads District Weekly Lane Closure Report. To sign up to receive these closures and others in Hampton Roads, sign up here.
